Global climate change is a major challenge. We cannot wait for others to tackle it for us; we need to take action today. That is why in 2002 we set the goal of reducing San Franciscos greenhouse gas emissions to 20% below 1990 levels by the year 2012 a goal far more aggressive than that set by the Kyoto Protocol.
